EPISODE 3:
B.B.’s Big Catch

Instead of waking up to the gentle chirping of birds and the rustling of leaves, B.B. was jolted awake by all the hustle and bustle of the morning rush. Cars honk, tires screech, and bright lights of red, yellow, and green flash in his half-open eyes.

When B.B. realizes the sun is already up, he quickly climbs down the rope ladder on the playground and hides behind a big bush. Peeking out, he watches the cars and trucks zoom past, wondering what these noisy things were all about. After just a few minutes, he notices that the cars are carrying humans, some with more than one inside. It reminds him of the time when he hopped on the dog’s back𑁋maybe riding in these things helped the humans get to where they needed to go faster!

As the line of vehicles comes to a stop, B.B. notices something different on one of them—it’s connected to a boat! He knew what a boat was because of the river by his home. Just then, a brave squirrel darts across the road, and feeling adventurous, B.B. follows suit, leaping into the boat. He settles in and can hardly contain his excitement when the boat begins to move.

After what feels like forever, watching trees and buildings whiz past, the boat finally stops, and B.B. can’t wait to start exploring. Throwing caution to the wind, he climbs down the side of the boat onto a surface that’s so hot, it makes his bare feet burn! Quickly, he jumps over to a puddle to cool off. He takes a deep breath, inhaling the salty sea air—which tastes just like those yummy yellow sticks he snacked on last night. His eyes widen as he sees a ginormous sandbox, way bigger than the one on the playground, and it runs into a river that stretches as far as he can see.

B.B.’s heart skips a beat when all of a sudden he hears one of the tiny humans pop out and shout, “The beeeeeeeeeeeeach!” Surprised, he looked around for a hiding spot and darted into a nearby plastic box. But, oops! It was full of ice! With a clumsy bump, he knocked the box over, causing a loud clatter. Quickly recovering, he hurried over to a bag filled with fluffy towels just in time as the pretty human reached over to grab it. Phew! That was too close!

Peeking only his head and eyes out from the bag he had a pretty good view of the humans on the beach. He sees one skillfully balancing on a board in the water, another  bending down to pick up colorful shells along the shore, and a tiny human using tools and buckets to build in the sand. They’re all having so much fun!

The bag comes to rest on the soft sand, and the humans begin building a shelter and the tall one flips a switch on a box that begins playing a song. This time, not only did B.B. hear the guitar, but the matching beat from a drum. It made him want to wiggle, but he was still warming up in the towels from that icy accident.

In the bag, B.B. found some of the same garments that humans wear when they’re out in the sun: a head cover, eye shields, something that covers their bellies, and a bottle labeled “SPF” and “55.” Curious, he squeezed some of the lotion onto his fur, noticing it was as white as paint. Feeling brave, he saw this as a chance to blend in and join the humans, so he put on his new disguise and ventured out.

B.B. came across a group of people who were picking up trash, just like he had seen in the forest. It made him happy to see humans caring about nature. Then, he noticed two tall humans casting a string into the water, attached to a big pole. To his surprise, one of them brought a fish back to shore!

B.B. approaches them quietly, feeling a little unsure. The fishermen are amused by his short stature and fuzzy white arms, but they welcome him warmly and offer to teach him how to fish. B.B. feels excited to learn something new, so he watches closely as the fishermen show him how to bait a hook and cast a line. With their help, he tries it himself, hoping to feel a fish nibble.

As time passes and the sun begins to sink again, B.B. starts to feel grumpy. Not a feeling he has felt before. He fidgets with his fishing rod, lets out a whimper and starts to sweat off his SPF 55 (whatever that is). He’s uncomfortable and feels nervous as the fishermen begin to pack up their boxes. His grumpiness starts to turn into frustration and he is ready to quit.

But then, just when B.B. least expects it, he feels a gentle tug on his line. With steady hands, he slowly reels in something BIG! And there it is – a shiny fish, silver and gold, with a big tail and a spiky fin! B.B. caught a fish! In that moment, he realizes that all his waiting was worth it. He feels so happy and proud. It was the sweetest of victories!

Fishing might be his new skill, but patience is B.B.’s new superpower! Patience means taking a deep breath and waiting for the magic to happen, even when it doesn’t feel good. Humans and yetis may be different creatures, but emotions are universal.  Just like humans, yetis can feel excited, frustrated, happy, and yes, even patient.
