Episode 32:
The Candy Store

The forest was calm that morning, but BB was not. His furry legs bounced as he peeked out from behind a tall oak tree. He had overheard hikers the day before chatting excitedly about a brand-new candy store in town.

“Shelves filled with sweets,” they had said.
“Every kind of treat you can imagine!”

BB didn’t understand all the words, but he understood one thing perfectly: adventure. And this adventure promised sugar, color, and magic.

Without wasting a moment, he set off. His little, shaggy feet left soft prints in the mossy ground as he traveled closer to the edge of the forest. The trees grew thinner, and soon he could see rooftops, cars, and people. BB’s heart thumped with both nervousness and excitement.

There it was—a bright, cheerful sign swinging above glass doors:
Grandpa Joe’s Candy Store.

The doors whooshed open as a family walked out with crinkling bags full of sweets. While no one was looking, BB slipped inside.

The first thing he noticed was the smell. Sweet and warm, like chocolate melting in the sun and honey drizzling on pancakes. His little nose twitched, and his round eyes grew wide as he took in the sight.

Rows upon rows of candy stretched in every direction. Large bags of jellybeans glittered like treasure chests. Caramel fudge, peanut butter cups, sour ribbons, licorice twists—it was a candy rainbow come to life.

BB’s paws clapped together in excitement. He waddled down one aisle, gently poking a stuffed marshmallow the size of a pillow. It wobbled and nearly toppled from the shelf, and he scrambled to steady it before giggling silently at his own clumsiness.

At the very back of the shop, he found something that made him freeze in wonder. A whole wall of candy! Gummies, chocolates, hard candies, lollipops all packed into containers to fill a box with as much as you can. BB accidentally pressed his foot against one big rubber chicken. SQUAK! It bounced back softly, like touching a cloud. Startling himself, his shoulders shook with a laugh.

But then—footsteps.

Quick as a flash, BB ducked behind a cooler full of various sodas. His furry head peeked around the corner just enough to see a store worker humming as they restocked gummy worms. BB held perfectly still. His nose twitched. His eyes blinked once. Twice. Finally, when the worker turned away, BB crept out on tiptoe.

That’s when he spotted the gumball machine.

It stood tall and round, its glass belly full of colorful gumballs. They shone like tiny marbles, each one brighter than the last. BB pressed his nose to the glass, leaving a foggy circle. His paw brushed the crank by accident.

Clink, clink, clink!

A single red gumball rolled down the chute and landed with a little plop. BB jumped back in surprise. He stared at it, then scooped it up gently. A treasure! He tucked the gumball safely into his fur, close to his chest.

The store was so full of wonder, but BB knew his adventure had to end soon. Someone might notice him if he stayed too long. With one last look at the candy paradise, he tiptoed to the door, slipped outside, and padded quickly back toward the woods.

By the time the sun began to set, BB was safe in his forest home. He pulled out his shiny red gumball and gave it an experimental lick. His eyes lit up instantly. Sweet! Tart! Wonderful!

BB smacked his lips happily, already dreaming of what adventures tomorrow might bring. Maybe the candy store again. Maybe someplace new.

But for now, the forest was quiet, the stars were coming out, and BB had his very first candy treasure.
