Episode 49:
B.B. & The World of Color

The Adventures of Baby Bigfoot. Episode 49, Baby Bigfoot and the World of Color. BB wakes to the sound of something soft and strange. Drip. He opens one sleepy eye. Drip. BB lifts his head from the moss beneath him and listens. Drip. He looks up through the trees. The morning sky is bright and clear, and sunlight spills between the branches. Birds sing somewhere above him, leaves rustle gently in the breeze, and everything feels just as it should.

But then BB notices something on the ground. A tiny drop of blue. He reaches out and touches it with one fuzzy finger. Blue. Not the soft blue of the morning sky. This blue is brighter. Bolder. Almost glowing. BB looks ahead. There is another drop. Then another. And another. The little blue trail winds between the trees.

BB stands. He follows. A few steps later, the blue becomes yellow. Then red. Then green. Soon, BB is following a trail of bright colors scattered across the forest floor, each one leading him farther from the familiar trees and deeper into the unknown.

BB pauses at the top of a small hill. Beyond the trees, he sees something enormous. A building. Its walls are covered in bright colors and giant pictures. Families walk toward its doors, children laughing and pointing as they hurry inside. BB has never seen anything like it.

He looks back at the colorful trail behind him. Then he looks at the building. Curiosity wins. BB takes a careful step forward. Then another. And before long, Baby Bigfoot finds himself standing inside a world of color.

BB stops. His eyes grow wide. Color is everywhere. It covers the walls. It stretches across the floors. It shines from signs and pictures and enormous decorations. Red. Yellow. Blue. Green. Purple. Orange. Some colors are soft. Some are bright. Some seem to glow. BB slowly turns in a circle, trying to take it all in.

Then something enormous catches his eye. A giant blue crayon stands nearby. BB walks toward it. And walks. And walks some more. He looks up. And up. And up. The crayon is taller than BB himself. He reaches out and gently places his paw against it. A tiny smile spreads across his face.

But before BB can wonder how something so big could possibly be a crayon, he hears a low hum coming from somewhere nearby. Curious once more, BB follows the sound. He discovers a place where crayons are made.

BB watches carefully as wax moves through machines, changing shape and color before becoming the familiar crayons he has seen children use. The machines hum. The colors swirl. The crayons roll along. BB leans closer.

He realizes something wonderful.

These colors aren’t just sitting here. Someone made them.

BB looks down at his paws. He wonders what he could make.

A little while later, BB finds himself surrounded by paper and crayons. He picks up a blue one. Very carefully, he makes a line. Then another. Yellow. Red. Green. Soon, BB’s picture is covered with swirls and shapes.

He draws trees. He draws a river. He draws the mountains he sees from his forest home. And, in the middle of everything, he draws one very small Baby Bigfoot.

BB steps back. He looks at his picture. It isn’t perfect. One tree is much taller than the others. The river bends in a strange direction. And BB’s own little face looks more like a fuzzy potato than a Bigfoot.

BB stares at it.

Then he laughs quietly.

He likes it.

He keeps walking.

Ahead, he discovers colors doing something he has never seen before. They are moving. Dripping. Spinning. Dancing together. BB watches as bright drops of melted wax fall onto a surface and spread into swirling patterns.

He reaches out and gives it a try. One drop. Then another. The colors twist together. Blue meets yellow. Red meets orange. Something new appears.

BB watches in amazement.

He had started with separate colors. But together, they had become something completely different.

BB smiles.

Maybe that’s what creating is all about.

You never quite know what you’ll discover.

BB wanders onward. Soon he finds a tiny creature waiting for him. It looks a little lonely. BB picks it up carefully and begins to color it. He gives it blue feet. A bright yellow body. A red nose.

Then BB thinks for a moment.

Something is missing.

He gives it one enormous purple ear.

BB holds it up. The creature looks back at him. BB giggles. It isn’t like anything he’s ever seen. But he thinks it’s wonderful.

He carries it carefully as he continues exploring.

Then he finds something that makes him stop.

A place where children are creating little creatures of their own. They shape them. They squish them. They give them funny faces and strange shapes.

BB looks at the creature in his paws.

He wonders something.

What if his little friend could do more than simply sit there?

What if it could move?

BB carefully carries it inside.

And then something magical happens.

His little creation appears on a screen.

BB freezes.

The creature moves. It takes a step. Then another. It runs. It jumps. It spins. It explores a world that BB could never have imagined.

BB’s mouth falls open.

The little creature he had shaped with his own paws was alive on the screen. It was having an adventure.

BB watches every second.

And slowly, something inside him changes.

All day long, BB had been looking at things other people had created. The giant crayon. The colorful pictures. The swirling artwork. The little creatures.

But now he understands.

He had created something, too.

It wasn’t perfect.

It wasn’t exactly what he had imagined.

But it was his.

And that made it special.

BB looks down at his little creation. One enormous purple ear. A bright yellow body. A funny little red nose.

BB smiles.

As the afternoon begins to fade, BB makes his way back toward the entrance. He takes one last look around. The building is still full of laughter. Colors still cover the walls. Children are still creating things that didn’t exist when they walked through the doors that morning.

BB steps outside.

The air feels cooler now. Quieter. He takes a deep breath.

Then he looks up.

Blue.

He looks at the trees.

Green.

A flower beside the path.

Red.

The setting sun.

Orange.

And as the sky begins to change, soft pinks and purples spread across the evening clouds.

BB stops walking.

He looks around.

The colors he had spent the entire day discovering were not only inside that building.

They were everywhere.

They had been waiting in the sky. In the trees. In the flowers. In the world around him.

BB just hadn’t been looking for them before.

He looks down at his little creation and holds it close.

Then he begins walking toward home.

The forest grows closer with every step. The familiar trees welcome him back. BB finds his favorite patch of soft moss beneath the branches and settles down.

He places his little creature beside him.

For a moment, he looks at it quietly.

BB thinks about the day. About following a trail of colors into a place he had never seen. About discovering how crayons were made. About watching colors swirl together. About drawing his forest home. And about the little creature that had somehow come alive right before his eyes.

BB smiles.

He understands something now.

You don’t have to know exactly what you’re making before you begin. You don’t have to make it perfect. Sometimes, you just have to pick up a crayon… make the first mark… and see where your imagination takes you.

BB looks up through the branches.

The last bit of sunlight disappears from the sky. Stars begin to appear overhead. And for a moment, BB wonders what he might create tomorrow.

Maybe something blue.

Maybe something green.

Maybe something nobody has ever imagined before.

He closes his eyes.

The forest grows quiet around him. Leaves whisper overhead. A gentle breeze moves through his fur.

And with a soft, happy sigh…

Baby Bigfoot drifts off to sleep.

Dreaming of colors, little creatures, and all the wonderful things waiting to be imagined.
